Kawasaki Receives Order from Taiheiyo Cement for Steam Turbine Generator

Tokyo, Jan.23.2024 — Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced today its receipt of an order from Taiheiyo Cement Corporation for the replacement of an existing steam turbine generator at their Ofunato Plant. The new equipment will have an electric power generation output of 12.5 MW and is scheduled to commence operations in October 2025.

The system will make use of waste heat from the firing stage of the cement production process in high-efficiency power generation operations, with the aim of greater energy efficiency for the plant. Kawasaki will handle steam turbine generator design, supply and install all necessary equipment, and provide commissioning guidance.

In addition to praise for the steam turbine’s excellent performance, Kawasaki earned this latest order thanks to high evaluation of the advantages the equipment offers via effective utilization of existing facilities, as well as high evaluation of the company’s overall engineering capabilities and post-delivery maintenance system.

Kawasaki began manufacturing steam turbines for power generation in 1956. Since then, it has delivered steam turbines to a wide range of customers, including domestic and international electric power companies and other power producers, as well as biomass power plant operators, cement manufacturers, steelmakers, and petrochemical manufacturers that have utilized the products for their captive power plants, waste-to-energy plants, and other such applications.
