KCM Launches Two New Wheel Loader Models Compliant with EPA Tier 4 Interim (EURO Stage IIIB) in Japan

Tokyo, May 26, 2014 — KCM Corporation, a Kawasaki group company, announced today that it will launch new small-sized wheel loader models for the Japanese market on June 1. The latest addition to the Z7 series, the 50Z7 (bucket capacity: 1.3 m3, operating weight: 7.0 t) and 60Z7 (bucket capacity: 1.5 m3, operating weight: 8.1 t) meet EPA Tier 4 Interim (EURO Stage IIIB) in Japan targeting non-road special motor vehicles.*1

The 50Z7 and 60Z7 were jointly developed by KCM and Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. Both models have been outfitted with all the features required of a wheel loader, including safety, cost performance, operational performance, exterior design and operator comfort, to ensure users' needs are fully met.

The 50Z7 and 60Z7 have significantly reduced air-polluting NOx and particulate matter (PM) emissions compared to existing KCM models, in order to meet EPA Tier 4 Interim (EURO Stage IIIB) for non-road special motor vehicles established by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. The new models have also reduced fuel consumption by approximately 15% while realizing greater operational performance than the existing models.

The features and main specifications of the 50Z7 and 60Z7 are outlined below.

Key Features

Compliant with EPA Tier 4 Interim (EURO Stage IIIB) for Non-road Special Motor Vehicles

  • The engine comes with new features such as an oxidation catalyst muffler and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system, which combine to substantially reduce NOx and PM emissions.
  • The new models also comply with the U.S. EPA Tier 4 Interim and EU Stage IIIB emissions standards.

Reduced Fuel Consumption

  • The new matching control feature measures load while digging to automatically control traction force. This optimizes the machine's movement and minimizes energy loss, resulting in about 15% reduction in energy consumption compared with existing KCM models along with smooth digging and loading.

Improved Operating Performance, Safety and Ride Comfort

  • A speed selector switch allows the operator to set the maximum speed between 7 and 11.5 km/h in the low-speed range for easy maneuvering in small spaces.
  • An inclined ladder was adopted for safer access to the cab, along with an improved handrail.

Greater Maintainability

  • The broader engine room opening compared with existing KCM models provides easy access for improved maintainability.
  • The exhaust gas aftertreatment device consists of an oxidation catalyst muffler which does not require regular cleaning or replacement of filters.

Sophisticated Exterior Design

  • Engineered with an eye to environments where small wheel loaders are used, the new models feature sophisticated and dynamic exterior designs that blend in with the urban landscape.

Wide Range of Options

  • A wide range of option packages are available for various applications where small wheel loaders are frequently used, including snowplowing, agricultural, livestock, and industrial waste disposal operations.

New Maintenance Package

  • The new-vehicle warranty program for the newly launched Z7 series applies to the newest models as well. The following items have been added to the existing coverage.
    1. The warranty period for the power train (main components including the engine, transmission and hydraulic equipment) will be extended to either three years or 5,000 hours of service, whichever is reached earlier.*2
    2. Free maintenance services
      The engine oil and engine oil filters will be replaced free of charge every 500 hours (up to four times).

A paid maintenance service agreement is required to extend the warranty coverage beyond 12 months.
